I think the best lip color is a shade that simply enhances your natural lip color. If you're older and your natural lip color is faded, go maybe a half shade darker, no more. Some people have a very well-defined lip color and only need a little gloss. In any case, the color that nature gave you... is obviously your best shade!
What I don't like are bright, dark, or harsh shades that make girls look cheap or clownish. Also, I'm not a fan of the trend towards ';neutral lips';. I think lightening your lip color makes them fade into your face and makes your teeth look terrible! You should be able to SEE your lips, right?

Not anything to outrageous. A simle color or even a clear is cute. If they over do it, like on pale skin and bright red lips, then its overdone
