I say if you're going with lipstick go for blood reds/deep reds. Basically a red that looks like it has been mixed with a little brown, sounds like you're about the same colour as me (Jennifer Hudson type colour? I call it 'Typical Brown'). It looks great and it also makes a statement. Makes your lips look really good.
Lipgloss, I'd say go for a shimmery browny/red, go for the ones that have just a hint of colour.
usually a lighter brown color or a pinkish color, but everyones different, so youll probably have to experiment
Try orange, it looks bright in the tube but is really subtle and flattering on the lips.
